Aquaculture

Integrated aquaculture can be advantageous in multiple ways:

  1. Nitrogen rich water for irrigation if fish grows in the pond
  2. “Porukku” soil rich in decomposed fish droppings can be used as manure later
  3. Fish as a source of income to break-even cost of pond construction

Fishes

  • Catla - Top layer fish - 300
  • Rogu - Medium layer fish - 150
  • Mirgal - Bottom layer fish - 200
  • Grass Carp - 100

Fish Food

  1. 2% of total fish body mass
  2. Ingredients
    1. 50% Rice husk flour
    2. 20% Oil cake (powdered)
    3. 20% Corn flour
    4. 10% Soya/Wheat flour
  3. First 1 month, once a day - after that twice a day
  4. 100kg cow dung every month given our pond's dimensions; 50kg every 15 days
