Our goal is to grow as much food materials as possible to meet our daily needs. The means of achieving that is by being as low tech as possible in the long run (meaning lesser dependence on any non-natural forms of energy). This naturally gives rise to the use of permaculture principles to guide our design.
We have done the first phase of design of our farm. There are three zones to the farm:
Zone 1
Western end
~4 ft tall boundaries with red soil
-
Inter-crop with other grains; Vegetables to be bought from local market until we have solved transportation of fresh produce (
IOW, growing vegetables on the farm is not a priority right now)
Pond starting from the beginning of zone 1/2 boundary spanning 85 ft backwards
2)
Pond has ~5ft tall
banks suitable for growing coconut and plantains
3)
Two elevated earth platforms at the south-west and north-west corners capable of holding east-facing shelters overlooking the entire farm.
Water inlet from another water way, just in case the main entrace runs dry (possible during rainy seasons)
Water outlet from farm to vadikaal
Zone 2
Zone 3
Suitable for Paddy
Water inlet to farm
Eastern end
~4 ft tall boundaries
